Off the Beaten Path: Where We Ride

When you travel with us in Europe, you’ll arrive in Munich. This world-class airport is the second busiest in Germany and the seventh busiest in Europe, with many connections to airports around the world. Derived from the Old/Middle High German term Munichen, meaning “by the monks,” Munich offers every kind of sightseeing opportunity a traveler could imagine, from museums and gardens, village squares, and delicious cuisine to 16-day-long Oktoberfest. It doesn’t hurt that BMW calls Munich home, either.

However, it’s the largest city we will see, as our tours follow roads that often only locals know about. While we will still hit some of the most famous motorcycle roads in Europe, including the unforgettable Grossglockner High Alpine Road on ourOld World Charm and Croatia Coast & Curves tours, and the Stelvio Pass on the Five-Country Tour, we venture off the beaten path to give guests a real feeling for the region they’re touring. Winding routes through the Alps and Dolomites, along gorges and through lavender fields, will take us to small, lesser-known towns. Sometimes even locals seem surprised to see us—we’re that far away from the usual tourist path.

Depending on the tour, you might encounter demanding routes with curves and switchbacks daily or laid back riding along the most beautiful valleys, but we always seek a fun pace that truly lets you immerse yourself in the surroundings. And our guides, including long-time RoadRUNNER contributor Uwe Krauss, have an intimate knowledge of the best backroads, hotels and restaurants, scenic spots, and historical points of interest in each country.

Whether you come with us on a European Romance tour or climb to the Top of Europe, you’ll see some of the best sites Europe has to offer—on the kind of backroads that won’t be found in a guidebook.
