Our Favorite Places in Munich

We’re preparing to spend a lot of time in Munich, Germany in 2016. With five of Blue Rim’s tours based out of Munich (Check out the full 2016 schedule here), the city is like a second home for our team. Here are a few of our favorite attractions that you definitely don’t want to miss during your next visit:

Deutsches Museum It’s a museum for science and technology, but you definitely don’t have to be a techie or book nerd to have fun here. The interactive exhibits make it a gigantic playground. If you enjoy learning about the history of transportation, (we especially love the two-wheeled kind), then you’ll really enjoy the museum’s transport exhibitions. They cover everything from shipbuilding to hydroelectric power.

Munich’s New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) With its massive size and intricate Gothic Revival style architecture, the New Town Hall is impressive to behold. The huge building is in Marienplatz (or Mary’s Square) in Munich’s city center. It’s nearly 100,000 square feet and boasts 400 rooms. For a small fee, you can take an elevator ride to the top of New Town Hall’s 279-foot tower for a panoramic view of Munich. The famous Glockenspiel captivates visitors daily at 11am, noon, and 5pm (March through October only).

Alte Pinakothek As Munich’s preeminent art museum, the Alte Pinakothek is one of the oldest museums in the world and specializes in early European art, primarily of Italian, German, Dutch, and Flemish origin. A few notable works in the museum’s collection include Albrecht Dürer’s The Four Apostles, Rembrandt’s The Sacrafice of Isaac, and Leonardo da Vinci’sMadonna of the Carnation, among many others.
