A great autumn escape into the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. This is a BYOB trip meaning Bring Your Own Bike. The tour will feature some of the most famous, technical, and scenic motorcycle roads in the country including the Blue Ridge Parkway, Deals Gap, the Cherohala Skyway, and Skyline Drive, as well as visits to many historic locations and national parks along the way. You’ll enjoy curvy and challenging mountain roads in the midst of brilliant Appalachian fall colors.  En route you’ll find a variety of accommodations from five-star historic inns to modern hotels and rustic lodges. During the day you can ride at your own pace either alone or with the group, while at night you'll get to rehash the stories and adventures of the day while relaxing with your tour mates. This approach maximizes riding enjoyment while still fostering the friendships and camaraderie you’ve come to expect from Blue Rim Tours.

This tour features a variety of technical, curvy mountain roads as well as riding days of up to 285 miles. As such, this tour is for experienced riders only. Keep in mind that we also ride in the rain sometimes, so be sure you are comfortable riding in wet conditions.

The hotels are three- and four-star establishments. You will appreciate the modern amenities of the hotels. We will either eat breakfast at the hotel or travel to a restaurant nearby before starting our tour for the day. We will stop for lunch while on the road, and in the evenings, we will stop for dinner on the way to the hotel or eat at the hotel restaurant. Casual clothes for evenings are fine; there’s no need for formal wear.

If you trailer your bike to Hagerstown, MD, then you can park the trailer securely on the first hotel's parking lot.

Group Size

The group will be between 6 and 12 riders.

Roads and Traffic

Most of the tour route will involve two-lane, asphalt roads. There will be increased traffic and possibly some parking challenges at National Park Service locations. Road surfaces are generally in very good condition, except for some of the less maintained, more remote roads. There will be frequent curves and elevation changes on many of the routes. The pace will be kept moderate with frequent stops at historic sites and for comfort as needed.

Bringing Your Motorcycle

We will be riding at least 1,525 miles or 2,445 km during this tour. Please make sure that your motorcycle is properly serviced beforehand; tires should have adequate tread life remaining.

Motorcycle Rentals

The rental motorcycle is not included. If you plan to rent one, Blue Rim Tours found the following rental or ride share options.

Deposit and Payment

A deposit of $1,000 per person is required to reserve your place on the tour.

All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. We accept personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. On June 11, 2022, 50% of the tour price is due. The remaining balance of the tour is due before or on July 30, 2022.

Reservation Deadline

The deadline for reservation is June 11, 2022.

Cancellation Policy

If for any reason you need to cancel your trip, please do so in writing. Cancellations made between June 11 and July 29, 2022 will forfeit 50% of the total tour price. July 30, 2022 and after, the total tour price is non-refundable.

Minimum Tour Requirement

We reserve the right to cancel any tour if the number of participants booked does not meet the minimum requirement to operate the trip or due to force majeure. In the unlikely event that this should occur, your payment will be refunded minus the non-refundable registration fee. This fee can be applied to another tour of your choice.

Trip Insurance

It is highly recommended that you get trip insurance. For additional information on trip cancellation insurance, visit www.insuremytrip.com. Please read our helpful blog about travel insurance here.

Weather

Because we will be riding in high desert and mountainous terrain, temperatures can fluctuate significantly, likely range between 60 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit (15 to 29 degrees Celsius), but possibly cooler at the higher altitude. Dress in several layers so you can easily adjust to changing weather conditions. In case of heavy rain or other inclement weather, we will choose the shortest route to the next hotel whenever possible.
